Melanie Hooyenga, author of the Flicker Effect trilogy, is a self-proclaimed “sucker for happily ever after.” But hey, aren’t we all? 

A longtime resident of Grand Haven, Michigan, Melanie will release the newest addition to the Rules series as a short story inThe Art of Taking Chances. She was inspired to tell the story of how two characters from her 2018 novel, The Trail Rules, began dating. 

This sweet romance follows Alex and her best friends as they explore the mountain bike trails near Boulder, Colorado. As she begins feeling like more than friends with one of the boys, she struggles with the decision to break the group’s longstanding friend rules or give up a chance at love.

Although Melanie began writing novels 11 years after graduating college, she has already successfully published six books. Now, she is working on publishing the third book in the Rules series, The Edge Rules, coming Fall 2018. After completing the series, Melanie plans to begin work on a psychological YA novel.
